New Delhi: Indian Railways has approved a ₹252-crore project to deploy Kavach Version 4.0 across 607.7 route kilometres of the Lucknow division of North Eastern Railway, as part of efforts to strengthen train safety through indigenous technology.
The project will extend Kavach 4.0 coverage to the identified remaining sections of the division, adding an automatic train protection layer to railway operations.
Kavach is an indigenously developed Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system designed to improve operational safety. The system helps prevent Signal Passing at Danger (SPAD) and can automatically apply brakes when necessary, while continuously monitoring train movement.
The latest approval is part of Indian Railways’ broader rollout of Kavach across its network to modernise train protection infrastructure and improve the safety and reliability of train operations.
The project will cover the identified balance sections of the Lucknow division, further expanding the deployment of the indigenous safety system on the railway network.
