Bengaluru: Namma Metro’s Pink Line is targeted for inauguration by the end of this month, Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya said on Wednesday, adding that officials had been directed to complete the remaining works and necessary procedures within the deadline.
Surya inspected the Pink Line stretch from Jayadeva station to Kalena Agrahara along with Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda and MLA Krishnappa. He shared details of the inspection in a post on X.
“BMRCL has targeted the line for inauguration by the end of this month. We have urged officials, along with the minister, to strictly adhere to the deadline and complete the project,” Surya said.
He said he had also held discussions with officials of the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) on Wednesday morning regarding safety clearances and timelines. Approval related to train operations is expected within the next 15 days, following which the required safety clearance for the entire stretch is expected to be secured, he said.
Surya added that efforts were being made in coordination with officials and the Centre to ensure the approvals were obtained at the earliest.
The operationalisation of the Pink Line is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion on Bannerghatta Road and further strengthen Bengaluru’s public transport network, he said.
Surya also pitched public transport as a more scientific and sustainable solution to Bengaluru’s traffic woes, arguing that priority should be given to projects aimed at reducing congestion rather than “unscientific” initiatives such as the tunnel road project.
He urged citizens and opposition parties to support such public transport projects in the larger interest of Bengaluru.
