Jaipur, Aug 15 (IANS) Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma on Saturday said the state government is working towards introducing the Rajasthan Civil Code‑2026 in accordance with the constitutional spirit of Article 44, which directs states to move towards a Uniform Civil Code for citizens.
Addressing the people of Rajasthan after hoisting the National Flag at the 80th Independence Day state‑level ceremony at Karni Singh Stadium in Bikaner, Sharma said the proposed legislation would provide a uniform legal framework for citizens across the state.
The Chief Minister said the government has taken several stringent measures to strengthen peace and security. Referring to the Rajasthan Disturbed Areas Act, he said it aims to prevent forced migration and property transactions in communally sensitive areas and ensure that people are not compelled to leave their homes, ancestral land or identities.
He also highlighted the enactment of the Prohibition of Unlawful Religious Conversion Act, aimed at preventing conversions through inducement or fraud. Sharma said the government is following a zero‑tolerance policy towards crime and corruption, which, according to him, has contributed to a decline in crime and created an atmosphere of peace and security in the state.
Sharma said India is gaining greater recognition globally under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with the country’s digital public infrastructure and platforms such as UPI attracting international attention. He said the state government is working with full commitment towards the goal of a Developed India and a Developed Rajasthan by 2047.
The Chief Minister said the efforts of the “double‑engine” government have accelerated Rajasthan’s development. He highlighted the Rs 79,459‑crore HPCL Rajasthan Refinery Project at Pachpadra and the Mahi‑Banswara Nuclear Power Project as major initiatives that would create new engines of economic growth in the state.
Describing water as the foundation of Rajasthan’s life, economy and future, Sharma said the government has made water security a priority. He said the Ram Jal Setu Link Project, with an estimated cost of approximately Rs 91,000 crore, is being implemented rapidly, with work orders worth around Rs 26,000 crore already issued. The project is expected to provide drinking water and irrigation facilities to people in 17 districts of Rajasthan.
He also said a Memorandum of Agreement has been signed for a project worth approximately Rs 34,000 crore to bring Yamuna water to Rajasthan, which would provide long‑term drinking water security to approximately 75 lakh people in the Shekhawati region.
The Chief Minister said Rajasthan has moved from being a power‑purchasing state to a power‑supplying state. According to him, Rajasthan ranks first in the country in solar power capacity and second in renewable energy capacity. He also said the state ranks first nationally in PM‑KUSUM Components A and C. Sharma further highlighted the government’s measures to strengthen the power sector and support consumers and farmers.
The state‑level Independence Day celebrations in Bikaner also featured cultural performances by folk artists and schoolchildren from Rajasthan and other parts of the country, showcasing India’s cultural diversity and adding to the patriotic atmosphere.
The Chief Minister reiterated his government’s commitment to achieving the vision of a Developed Rajasthan by 2047 while strengthening security, water availability, energy infrastructure and economic development across the state.
