Bengaluru: BJP state president B.Y. Vijayendra has accused the Congress government in Karnataka of discrimination in the declaration of drought-hit taluks, alleging that the move reflects its failure to effectively manage the drought situation and provide relief to farmers.
In a post on X, Vijayendra cited the public statement of Muddebihal Congress MLA C.S. Appaji Nadagouda, who had alleged discrimination in the declaration of drought taluks.
‘More than 190 taluks drought-hit, only 101 declared’
Vijayendra claimed that more than 190 taluks across Karnataka are facing drought conditions, while the state government has officially declared only 101 taluks as drought-hit.
He alleged that the Congress government has been affected by corruption and mismanagement and accused it of lacking transparency in its decisions. The BJP, he said, had already raised objections to the drought-hit taluk list.
According to Vijayendra, Nadagouda’s statement has now provided further support to the BJP’s allegations. He criticised Vijayapura district in-charge minister M.B. Patil for allegedly trying to divert public attention instead of acknowledging the concerns raised by the MLA and addressing the issue.
‘Respond to people’s suffering first’
Vijayendra said the exchange of statements between Nadagouda and M.B. Patil had exposed differences within the Congress government.
“Whatever your internal differences, quarrels and disputes may be, the government must first focus on the suffering of the people,” Vijayendra said, urging the state government to prioritise drought management and immediate assistance to affected farmers.
He also called for greater attention to the concerns of drought-hit communities and urged the government to ensure that farmers are not denied relief due to political or administrative differences.
