Ballari (Karnataka), Sep 7 (IANS) The BJP’s ‘Ballari Chalo’ padyatra entered its seventh day on Monday, with the march led by State President, B.Y. Vijayendra, receiving what the party described as overwhelming public support, allegedly due to the public’s anger against the Karnataka government.
The padyatra resumed from Kampli amid slogans and songs, as BJP leaders targeted the state government over its alleged failures on law and order and other issues.
Describing the march as a people’s march, Vijayendra claimed the response from people along the route was a clear indication of growing public anger against the Karnataka government.
“The flood of public support for the party’s padyatra is a warning bell of people’s anger against the corrupt government,” Vijayendra alleged.
He said the Ballari Chalo agitation was progressing successfully with the blessings and support of the people. He thanked the public, including farmers, women and senior citizens, for standing along the route despite the heat and extending their support to the march.
“The unprecedented support, beyond our expectations, is evidence that this padyatra has become the true voice of the people’s demand for the development of Kalyana Karnataka,” he said.
Vijayendra alleged that the state government was rattled by the public response to the padyatra and was struggling to cover up its failures.
“The desperation of the Congress government itself is proof of the success of the padyatra,” he said.
He said the BJP would continue its agitation until the government addressed the legitimate demands and rights of farmers and workers.
“The blessings of the people are giving strength to this people’s movement. The corrupt government must bow to public anger and provide farmers and workers their rightful dues. Until then, our fight will not stop,” Vijayendra said.
The padyatra, which began earlier this month, is being held by the BJP to highlight what it alleges are the failures of the state government, particularly on law and order, and issues concerning farmers and the development of Kalyana Karnataka.
Several senior BJP leaders participated in Monday’s march, including former ministers B. Sriramulu and C.T. Ravi, MLA Dheeraj Muniraj, MLA Srivatsa, former MP Pratap Simha and former MLAs Raju Gowda and Suresh Babu.
A large number of party workers, office-bearers and supporters also joined the march as it proceeded from Kampli towards Ballari.
