Chennai, Sep 2 (IANS) The Tamil Nadu BJP will hold a consultative meeting of its state office-bearers and district presidents at Samayapuram in Tiruchirappalli on Wednesday to discuss preparations for the local body elections, possible bypolls and the party’s future course of action.
The meeting will be chaired by BJP State president Nainar Nagenthran. The party’s Tamil Nadu in-charge Arvind Menon and co-in-charge Sudhakar Reddy are among the senior leaders expected to participate in the deliberations.
The session assumes significance as the state unit prepares to strengthen its organisation and formulate strategies for the electoral contests ahead. Leaders are expected to assess the BJP’s position in different regions, review the functioning of district units and identify constituencies where the party needs to intensify its grassroots activities.
Preparations for the forthcoming local body elections are likely to figure prominently in the discussions. The participants may examine the party’s organisational readiness at the corporation, municipality, town panchayat and village panchayat levels, besides reviewing the strength of booth committees and the performance of local functionaries.
The leaders are also expected to discuss potential by-elections and the measures required to place the party machinery on election footing at short notice.
District presidents may be asked to present reports on political developments, local issues, membership activities and public outreach programmes in their respective areas. The meeting is also likely to consider the BJP’s next phase of political and organisational work across Tamil Nadu. Greater coordination between the state leadership and district units, expansion of the party’s support base and campaigns highlighting issues affecting the public are expected to form part of the agenda.
Senior leaders may review recent programmes undertaken by the party’s state unit and issue directions for future campaigns. They are also likely to discuss ways to improve communication with voters, mobilise party cadres and ensure that decisions taken by the leadership are implemented effectively at the district and booth levels.
The Samayapuram meeting will provide the leadership with an opportunity to obtain feedback directly from district presidents and evaluate the party’s preparedness on the ground.
Detailed consultations will be held on the local body elections, bypolls and the BJP’s next course of action. The deliberations are expected to conclude with a set of organisational priorities and assignments for district-level leaders.
