Chennai, Sep 2 (IANS) Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay is likely to undertake his first overseas visit between September 10 and 16, travelling to Britain as part of the Tamil Nadu government’s campaign to attract investments and deepen engagement with global companies.
The proposed tour is likely to focus on promoting Tamil Nadu as a preferred destination for industries across a range of sectors.
The Chief Minister is expected to hold meetings with business leaders, executives and potential investors, besides presenting the state’s infrastructure, skilled workforce and industrial ecosystem.
A senior government official confirmed that preparations were underway for the visit to Britain.
CM Vijay is also expected to oversee the signing of memoranda of understanding with companies interested in establishing or expanding their operations in Tamil Nadu. The itinerary, however, has not yet been finalised.
Sources said the government was examining the possibility of adding more countries to the tour, depending on the availability of investors and the scheduling of official engagements. Details of the delegation accompanying the Chief Minister are expected to be announced later.
The overseas mission comes shortly after the government said Tamil Nadu had received investment commitments exceeding Rs one lakh crore during its first 100 days in office. A substantial share of these commitments was secured at an investors’ conclave held in Chennai in August, where 97 MoUs involving proposed investments of Rs 67,452 crore were signed.
The government has described the investment pledges as an early achievement and an endorsement of its industrial strategy.
CM Vijay’s visit is expected to carry this campaign to an international audience and establish direct contact with companies considering new manufacturing, technology and service-sector projects in India.
The initiative also comes amid growing competition among states for large industrial projects.
Neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, in particular, has intensified its outreach to domestic and international investors, prompting Tamil Nadu to expand its own engagement with global business networks.
Ahead of CM Vijay’s proposed tour, state Industries Minister Keerthana is likely to travel to Taiwan on September 4 to participate in SEMICON Taiwan. Her visit will form part of Tamil Nadu’s efforts to engage leading semiconductor, electronics and component manufacturers.
The two missions signal the government’s intention to combine high-level political outreach with sector-specific engagement as it seeks to convert investment commitments into projects, employment and economic growth.
