Patna, Aug 24 (IANS) An ardent fan of the RJD chief walked to Patna city from Barh on Monday carrying Gangajal to offer to the veteran leader, whom he termed “Lord Lalu Yadav”.

Speaking to IANS, Jitendra Kumar Bharti said that he had come to offer Gangajal to Lalu Prasad Yadav, whom he has considered a “deity” since his childhood.

“I have come to offer Gangajal to Lord Lalu Yadav. Everyone worships Lord Shankar. I will worship the person I believe in. I have considered him God since childhood. I will continue to come and offer him Gangajal for five years. This is the first time,” he said.

Bharti said he was a resident of Mokama in Patna district and had undertaken the journey to Patna city on foot.

“I am from Mokama. I have come on foot from Umanath to Patna,” he told IANS.

The development comes a day after RJD leader and social worker Kedar Prasad Yadav anointed a picture of former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav with 251 litres of milk at Bhagwanpur in the district.

The event, held under the supervision of Pandit Abhay Acharya, included prayers and rituals performed before a picture of the RJD chief. Kedar Prasad Yadav described Lalu Prasad Yadav as an “incarnation of Kaliyuga” and a form of God.

During the event, he said that just as Lord Krishna liberated people by killing Kansa, Lalu Prasad Yadav had raised his voice for the poor and fought for their rights.

“Lalu Prasad Yadav is truly a form of God. Today, we consider Lalu Prasad Yadav our God, so we are worshipping his picture by pouring milk over it,” Kedar Yadav said.

This is not the first instance in which supporters have compared political leaders with Hindu deities.

Earlier in July, Samajwadi Party workers marked party chief Akhilesh Yadav’s birthday with a hawan and celebrations in several parts of Uttar Pradesh. Some supporters also depicted the SP chief as Lord Krishna in posters and displays. The events drew attention on social media, drawing both praise from supporters and criticism from political opponents.

Similarly, in June, Congress workers poured milk over a poster depicting Rahul Gandhi as Lord Parshuram and performed a ‘Rudrabhishek’ accompanied by Vedic chants.

The poster showed the Congress leader holding an axe in one hand and a copy of the Constitution of India in the other.
