Mumbai, August 24 (IANS) Stalwart singer Shaan remembered his late friend and fellow singer Krishnakumar Kunnath, popularly known as KK, on his 58th birth anniversary on August 23.
Celebrating the iconic singer’s music with fans during his recent live concert in Nepal, Shaan stated that every year he gets to celebrate his good friend and brother-like figure KK on his birth anniversary.
Shaan took to his social media account and shared a video clip from his performance in Nepal.
“Incidentally every year I get the good fortune to celebrate KK’s birthday at a concert where his fans sing and celebrate his special day.. this time in Nepal.. we all sang and danced to KK’s songs.. Happy Birthday Brother,” Shaan wrote.
Shaan performed in Kathmandu on August 22, where he presented a plethora of his popular songs before the Nepalese audience.
The birthday tribute holds special significance given Shaan’s longstanding friendship and professional association with KK. The two singers were apparently not just contemporaries in the Hindi music industry but also collaborated on many popular songs and shared the stage on numerous occasions.
Their collaborations include songs such as ‘Koi Kahe Kehta Rahe’ from Dil Chahta Hai, ‘It’s the Time to Disco’ from Kal Ho Naa Ho, ‘Dus Bahane’ from Dus and ‘O Humdum Suniyo Re’ from Saathiya.
Earlier Shaan had also spoken about KK’s personality, describing him as easy-going, disciplined and someone who preferred his personal space, through a post on social media.
KK, who was born on August 23, 1968, began his professional musical journey by singing advertising jingles before becoming one of the most recognisable voices in Hindi cinema.
He sang thousands of jingles before making his playback singing debut in the 1996 film Maachis with the song ‘Chhod Aaye Hum’.
His major breakthrough came with ‘Tadap Tadap Ke Is Dil Se’ from Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam in 1999. The song established KK as a powerful voice for heartbreak and emotional songs.
The same year, he released his debut non-film album Pal, which featured songs such as ‘Pal’ and ‘Yaaron’.
KK subsequently delivered a string of memorable songs, including ‘Aankhon Mein Teri’, ‘Tu Hi Meri Shab Hai’, ‘Alvida’, ‘Zindagi Do Pal Ki’, ‘Dil Kyun Yeh Mera’ and ‘Kya Mujhe Pyaar Hai’.
The latter was featured in the 2006 film Woh Lamhe, starring Kangana Ranaut and Shiney Ahuja.
For the uninitiated, KK passed away on May 31, 2022, at the age of 53, hours after performing at a concert in Kolkata. He reportedly felt unwell after the performance and collapsed soon after.
