Bhubaneswar, Sep 16 (IANS) In a shocking incident, a person allegedly killed his wife following a heated argument in Paikarapur village under the Chandbali police station area in Bhadrak district of Odisha during the wee hours of Wednesday, officials said.

The police identified the 40-year-old deceased wife as Kamalini Pati. The couple was staying with their three children in Paikarapur in Chandbali. Local sources claimed that the accused husband, Bijay Pati, used to work as a daily-wage labourer to make ends meet.

“The accused husband committed the crime while under the influence of alcohol. He used to get into fights with the deceased almost every other day. When we asked, he confessed to killing his wife following a quarrel,” a neighbour told media persons on Wednesday.

The accused, who had been away from home for the past two days, allegedly returned home drunk on Tuesday night. Subsequently, the couple got into a heated argument which soon turned violent as Bijay allegedly, in a fit of rage, strangled the victim to death with his hands.

He later revealed the whole matter himself before his relatives and other villagers, who informed the police.

Upon being informed, the staff of Chandbali police station reached the spot and launched an investigation into the matter. The accused husband has been detained by the police for further interrogation.

Meanwhile, a man was killed after his younger brother allegedly hurled a bomb at him in the Mahula village under Chandaka police station area of Bhubaneswar late hours of Tuesday night.

The two brothers, under the influence of alcohol, got into an altercation on Tuesday evening. Later, in a fit of rage, they allegedly tried to kill each other by hurling bombs kept to scare away wild animals. The attack killed the elder brother, Mohan Padhi, while the younger brother, Madan Padhi, suffered a severed hand.

Speaking to media persons, Bhubaneswar DCP Jagmohan Meena said, “As per preliminary information, a fight broke out between the two brothers over a trivial matter. They later hurled handmade bombs at each other. It was also ascertained that, as the village is located in a forested area, the siblings had kept the bombs to scare away wild animals.”

In the bomb attack on each other, the elder sibling, Mohan Padhi, died while the younger one, Madan Padhi has sustained serious injuries. Madan is currently undergoing treatment at the Capital Hospital, he added.
