Patna, Sep 8 (IANS) Three people were killed in a road accident on the Mokama-Bakhtiyarpur four-lane highway in Bihar on Tuesday after a speeding car lost control and rammed into a road divider, police said.
The car was travelling from Patna towards Khagaria when the accident occurred.
According to preliminary information, the driver lost control of the vehicle due to high speed, causing it to collide with the divider.
The impact left all three occupants trapped inside the car. Hearing the sound of the crash, nearby villagers and passersby rushed to the spot and launched rescue efforts.
As the vehicle’s doors were jammed, locals arranged for a cutter to open the damaged section of the car and eventually rescued the occupants. A police team from Mokama police station reached the spot after being alerted about the accident.
With the help of local residents, the three injured occupants were taken to the Mokama Trauma Centre. However, doctors declared all three dead upon arrival.
The victims were identified as Pawan Gupta, Sulochana Devi and the driver, Md Salman, all residents of Khagaria. Police took custody of the bodies and sent them for post-mortem examinations.
The families of the deceased were informed after their identities were established.
Preliminary investigation suggests that excessive speed and the subsequent loss of control were the likely causes of the accident. Police are investigating other aspects of the incident, if any.
Upon receiving the news of the three deaths, the families were plunged into deep grief and distress; the family members are inconsolable. An atmosphere of mourning prevails across the entire area following this tragic accident.
In another major accident, two women were injured after a passenger bus lost control and overturned by the roadside in West Champaran district on Tuesday morning.
The accident occurred near Tilanghi Bahuarwa village in Mainatand block, under the jurisdiction of Purushottampur police station.
The bus had departed from Pidadi for Bettiah with several passengers on board. When it reached the vicinity of Tilanghi Bahuarwa village, the vehicle suddenly went out of control and overturned, triggering panic among the passengers.
Hearing the commotion, local villagers rushed to the spot and helped rescue passengers from the bus.
The Purushottampur police were also informed, following which a team reached the site and launched relief and rescue operations.
The injured women were identified as 60-year-old Phulpati Devi, wife of Ramanand Sah of Sakraul village under Inarwa police station, and 48-year-old Salma Nisha, wife of Shakirjan Miyan of Purainiya village.
