
Haridwar, Aug 22 (IANS) Three people were killed, and six others were left seriously injured after four bikes collided head-on in Roorkee in Uttarakhand’s Haridwar, officials said on Saturday.
The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. on Friday on the Kaliyar Road of Roorkee.
According to the officials, three youths died on the spot, while six others were seriously injured and have been shifted to the hospital for treatment.
All four bikes were badly damaged after the collision.
Upon receiving the information about the accident, the Kaliyar police station and Civil Lines police arrived at the scene.
With the help of locals, the police transported the injured via ambulance to Roorkee Civil Hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.
They have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident.
The deceased have been identified as Ayan (18), a resident of Haridwar’s Manglaur; Raju (24) and Rajiv (18), residents of Piran Kaliyar.
Meanwhile, Aditya Chandra (25), a resident of Khanjarpur, is seriously injured and has been referred to AIIMS.
The other injured are undergoing treatment at Roorkee Civil Hospital.
According to the eyewitnesses, the first two bikes collided head-on, and the riders were thrown off. Following this, two more bikes collided with the already crashed bikes and the people on the road.
They said that they immediately alerted the police and the ambulance and started helping the injured.
The bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem, and their families have been informed.
Investigation is underway and further details are awaited.
Earlier on August 19, four people were killed, while three others were severely injured after a pick-up truck collided with a car near Manimai Temple in Doiwala.
According to officials, the pick-up truck driver fled the scene after the accident. Police have been working to trace and arrest him.
