Hyderabad, Aug 28 (IANS) Telangana Minister for Revenue and Housing, Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, said on Friday that the selection of beneficiaries for the Indiramma Towers in the Core Urban Region Economy (CURE) area is being conducted with complete transparency.
Indiramma Towers are being constructed in Greater Hyderabad to realise the dream of the poor to own a house, he said and called the project a symbol of their dignity.
He clarified that eligibility is the sole criterion for selection, which is being carried out without regard to caste, religion, or politics.
He stated that a highly transparent lucky draw is being held to allocate flats in the first phase of the Indiramma Towers project in the CURE area. The draw is being conducted in the presence of the media and eligible beneficiaries, with the entire process being broadcast live across social media platforms.
On Friday, the lucky draw for Indiramma Towers flats was conducted for the Nampally, Quthbullapur, Secunderabad, and Rajendranagar Assembly constituencies.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister announced that lucky draws for approximately 8,000 flats across 16 Assembly constituencies are being conducted from today until August 31. He stated that the lucky draw process would proceed at a rate of four constituencies per day.
The minister explained that for every constituency, 600 beneficiaries would be selected via lucky draw for 480 flats. Officials would subsequently conduct a final field verification, and if any selected individuals were found ineligible, the opportunity would be extended to eligible candidates from the remaining pool of 120 people.
The minister recalled that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy had laid the foundation stone for the Indiramma Towers at KPHB Colony in Kukatpally on August 13. He said the state government invited tenders for the construction of Indiramma Towers across 16 constituencies in record time while simultaneously conducting lucky draws to select beneficiaries.
He stated that the government is moving forward with the goal of constructing 1 lakh houses in the first phase under the CURE initiative. The minister announced that the process of identifying land in four additional Assembly constituencies has been completed and that applications for ‘Indiramma’ houses in these constituencies will be accepted until September 3.
The minister emphasised that poor families deserve to live with dignity, even in areas where land is valued at Rs 100 crore, Rs 200 crore, or Rs 300 crore per acre.
The minister stated that registration for eligible beneficiaries allotted homes in ‘Indiramma Towers’ would be carried out without any cost to them. He explained that after 10 years, beneficiaries would have the option to sell the house if the need arose.
He further clarified that should an urgent need arise before that period, there would also be an option to pledge the registration document with a bank to secure a loan. The minister stated that every beneficiary selected through the lucky draw would be provided with a constructed house measuring approximately 525 square feet.
He mentioned that each unit would also include an undivided land share of 17 to 20 square yards. He announced that ‘Indiramma Towers’—rising up to 10 floors depending on requirements—would be constructed on government-identified sites, complete with lifts and other essential infrastructure.
The Minister explained that the final selection of beneficiaries would take place after the lucky draw, and certificates would be issued following official verification. He assured that measures would be taken to commence construction work on the towers within just 3–4 days. He also noted that beneficiaries would have the opportunity to personally oversee the construction of their homes.
Srinivas Reddy stated that within the very first year of the Congress government’s tenure, 4.50 lakh ‘Indiramma’ houses were sanctioned across the state in the first phase. He noted that the construction of over 2 lakh houses has already been completed.
The minister explained that the state government is providing financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh per house in four instalments, and the payment of bills for the final instalment has also commenced.
He mentioned that another 2.50 lakh houses have been sanctioned for the second phase, and the process of selecting beneficiaries is being expedited. The minister indicated that the selection of beneficiaries for the second phase is likely to be completed within the next 10 days.
