Jaipur, July 29 (IANS) Under a special campaign launched by Police Headquarters, Bhupalpura Police in Udaipur achieved a breakthrough by arresting a habitual offender who had been absconding for the past 15 years and was wanted in connection with 23 permanent warrants.
To evade arrest, the accused had been living under a false identity, disguised as a Sadhu (ascetic) in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand.
The operation was carried out by a special police team led by Station House Officer (SHO) Ratan Singh Chauhan under the direction of Udaipur Superintendent of Police Amrita Duhan and the supervision of Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Umesh Ojha and Circle Officer (City East) Chhavi Sharma.
The arrested accused, Shyam Lal (78), son of Parasram and a resident of Meera Colony, Udaipur, had been absconding for the last 15 years. A total of 23 permanent warrants were pending against him.
To avoid arrest, he concealed his identity and lived as a Sadhu in Rishikesh.
Police received specific intelligence that the accused was living as a Sadhu in Uttarakhand. Acting on the information, the police team first searched Haridwar but did not locate him.
The search was then extended to various ghats in Rishikesh. Using old photographs, technical analysis, and sustained field operations, the team eventually identified and apprehended the accused.
Following his arrest, the accused was produced before the court and subsequently remanded to Central Jail. Police are now taking further legal action in all pending cases against him.
The successful operation was carried out by Head Constable Navalram; Constables Asuram, Raghuvir Singh, Rajendra Kumar, and Devilal; and Cyber Cell personnel Lokesh Raikwal, under the leadership of SHO Ratan Singh Chauhan. The efforts of Constables Asuram and Raghuvir Singh were particularly commendable.
