Kolkata, Aug 1 (IANS) West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari assured on Saturday that the personal data submitted through self-enumeration for Census 2027, that officially began in the state from Saturday, will be completely secured.
The Chief Minister symbolically inaugurated the process by completing his own self-enumeration exercise.
“There are two important things in this year’s Census. It is a 100 per cent digital census. Secondly, self-enumeration is being conducted for the first time,” Chief Minister Adhikari said after completing his own self-enumeration process.
He also told that a total of 14,399 state government staff had been deployed for the Census purpose, out of whom 3,400 are supervisors.
“Information about family members can be submitted online from August 1 to 15. The information provided by the people of the state will be confidential and legally protected. It will be used only for statistics, planning and development. There is no scope for disclosure or misuse of personal information. The tagline of this time’s census is ‘People’s Welfare’. I wish the Census exercise to be successful for the purpose of a developed India,” the Chief Minister said.
After the completion of the ‘self-enumeration’ phase on August 15, Census workers will go door-to-door from August 16 to September 15 to verify the information.
The information provided by the citizens will be compared with the actual information and there will be an opportunity for corrections if necessary.
This time, a completely digital method has been adopted in the Census.
A special mobile application has been provided for the enumerators, through which the collected information will be uploaded directly to the central server.
As a result, the administration has claimed that the work of collecting information will be faster, more accurate and transparent. Due to this process, the use of paper will also be reduced to a great extent.
This is the first time that caste-based information is being collected in the Census.
The Chief Minister said that because of the caste-based Census, the common people will get caste benefits.
“They (people) will not have to stand in separate queues. There will be permanent statistics on caste information,” Chief Minister Adhikari added.
He also accused the previous Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress government and claimed that the previous ruling party in West Bengal did not start the work on time.
