Bhubaneswar: The flood situation in parts of Bhadrak, Jajpur and Kendrapara districts remains a concern, but the Odisha government on Tuesday said the overall situation is under control.
A low-pressure area over Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand and north Odisha is likely to move northwestwards over the next 24 hours, the IMD said.
Odisha received an average 17.5 mm rainfall in the past 24 hours, while Barkot in Deogarh recorded 162.2 mm. The state has received 20% more rainfall than normal between August 1 and 25.
More than 1 lakh people have been affected by floods in the three districts. Relief camps have accommodated 1,622 people in Nabarangpur and 660 in Koraput.
As many as 79 rescue teams, including 28 ODRAF, one NDRF and 50 fire and emergency teams, have been deployed.
Rewa flood situation improves
The flood situation in Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa district has improved after heavy rains last week, with river levels receding.
The administration has begun assessing damage to houses, belongings and crops. Collector Narendra Kumar Suryavanshi directed officials to complete the survey within three days.
Local bodies have been asked to undertake sanitation work, while the Public Works Department will repair damaged roads and the Electricity Board will restore affected power infrastructure.
The measures followed Chief Minister Mohan Yadav’s review of the situation in Rewa, Shahdol and Jabalpur divisions.
