Ranchi, Oct 19 (IANS) The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has arrested six people following raids at several premises in Ranchi and Jamshedpur, officials said on Monday.
Among those arrested is a man identified as Jimmy, whom the agency suspects of being the alleged kingpin of the network.
Among those arrested is a young woman who is alleged to be involved in supplying narcotics.
According to the NCB, the preliminary investigation has revealed details of a network allegedly involved in the illegal trade of cocaine and synthetic drugs.
The agency is questioning the arrested accused to identify others linked to the operation and trace the sources of the narcotics.
The investigation has also revealed the use of international mobile numbers in the drug trafficking racket. The NCB said Jimmy used numbers from Thailand, the United Kingdom and the United States to further his drug syndicate.
The agency is also examining contacts linked to these numbers to determine who they were used to communicate with and whether they played any role in operating the network.
However, detailed information about the nature of these foreign contacts and any possible international links is yet to be established by the agency.
Some hotels and bars in Ranchi are also reportedly under scrutiny of the NCB in connection with the case.
Investigators suspect that cocaine and synthetic drugs may have been supplied at certain locations in the city. However, no definitive conclusion has yet been reached regarding the involvement of these establishments.
Based on the interrogation of those arrested, the NCB is working to piece together the wider network of drug trafficking. The agency is also trying to ascertain where the drugs were sourced from, who received the supplies, and whether others were involved in the alleged operation.
Further investigation is underway.
