Bhopal, May 27 (IANS) The Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) scheme, launched in 2020 to support entrepreneurship in the food processing sector, is yielding rich dividends across many states.
In Madhya Pradesh’s Burhanpur district, a young individual named Abhishek Jaiswal has become a shining example of self-reliance and is inspiring many youths of the village to take this route, with assistance from the Central government scheme.
Abhishek, a resident of Patonda village in Burhanpur district, was always enamoured of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘atmanirbharta’ and, today, with his firm determination and financial support under the PMFME scheme, has launched a start-up project that employs many women from the local village.
After completing his education, Abhishek took up a job; however, his dream was to achieve something far greater. It was during this period that he learned about the Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) scheme. He applied under the scheme, following which a loan of ₹19.94 lakh was sanctioned to him. With this financial assistance, Abhishek launched his business and, over time, steered it toward success.
Today, he has not only established his own successful startup but has also empowered numerous women by providing them with employment, thereby helping them become self-reliant.
Several local youth and women are employed at his startup, a development that has significantly boosted employment opportunities within the village.
Expressing his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Abhishek stated that Modi Ji’s schemes are providing the youth with fresh opportunities to move forward and progress.
Abhishek, a PMFME beneficiary, further said, “We do value addition to agricultural produce, prepare fruit powder at our unit, and sell it in local and domestic markets. I got a loan of about 20 lakh under the scheme and also got up to 35 per cent subsidy. I am thankful to PM Modi.”
Sandeep Rawal, a spices trader, said he was grateful to the Prime Minister for giving youth opportunities to explore their entrepreneurial spirit.
Notably, the PMFME is a centrally sponsored scheme that focuses on the growth and formalisation of micro food units across the country. The scheme, a part of Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyaan, provides financial, technical, and business assistance to entrepreneurs for setting up new units or upgrading existing ones.
It supports the Vocal for Local vision in the food processing sector and seeks to make microenterprises more competitive, bring them into the organised sector, and unlock new opportunities for growth.
