Deoghar (Jharkhand), June 30 (IANS) Panic spread in Jharkhand’s Deoghar district on Tuesday after a mother and her son were found murdered. Their bodies were recovered under suspicious circumstances in Nawadih village under Sonaraithari police station limits, officials said.
Police have registered a murder case and an investigation has been launched.
Given the seriousness of the incident, Superintendent of Police Praveen Pushkar visited the spot. A forensic team and a dog squad were also called in and pressed into service to collect evidence.
According to the police, the deceased have been identified as Jubeda Khatoon and her son.
Acting on information from villagers, the local police reached the spot and later teams from four police stations were also deployed to assist in the probe. The entire area was cordoned off, and a search operation was launched.
Both bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination, and forensic evidence is being collected from the scene.
Police are also interrogating local residents. The motive behind the killings is yet to be ascertained, and investigators are examining all possible angles, including family dispute, old enmity and property-related issues.
Notably, around four years ago, the head of the same family, Riaz Ahmad, had also been murdered. According to family members, he was killed with a sharp weapon on July 15, 2022. They alleged that the failure to arrest the accused in that case had left the family feeling unsafe.
However, it is not clear if the two incidents are related.
The latest incident has triggered tension and panic in the village. Police officials have appealed to residents to maintain calm.
The family members have demanded immediate arrest of the culprits.
SP Praveen Pushkar said the case is being investigated from all angles and the culprits will be arrested soon. The probe is currently progressing on the basis of technical evidence, forensic findings and inputs from local residents, he said.
