Bengaluru: A controversy over the functioning of a bar within church premises has now reached the Karnataka Lokayukta, with a complaint alleging official negligence and possible irregularities.
The issue pertains to the operation of ‘Lumara Bar and Kitchen’ within the premises of CSI Trinity Church in the city. Complainant Gnan Ruban has alleged that the bar is functioning in violation of rules, hurting religious sentiments, public morality and communal harmony.
Despite submitting representations to the state government, the Excise Department and the police, no action was taken, prompting the complainant to approach the Lokayukta on March 23.
The complaint alleges that officials of the concerned departments failed in their duty by allowing the bar to operate in a restricted zone. It further claims that even court directions were not taken seriously by authorities.
Raising serious concerns, the complainant has also suspected corruption behind the inaction, noting that multiple complaints had earlier been filed but went unaddressed.
What began as protests by church devotees against the bar has now escalated into a larger battle against alleged administrative lapses, with the matter now under the scrutiny of the Lokayukta.
