Bengaluru: The CID investigating the alleged KPSC veterinary officer recruitment scam has arrested BJP leader and alleged middleman Basavaraj Kannale, days after arresting IAS officer Gyanendra Kumar in connection with the case.
Kannale, a resident of Donagapur village in Bhalki taluk of Bidar district and a Syndicate member of Tumkur University, was arrested at Delhi airport on Sunday. CID officials also searched his residences in Donagapur and Bhalki’s Lecturer Colony.
Kannale and Gyanendra Kumar were produced before a court on Monday. After hearing the matter, the court remanded both to CID custody till September 9.
Question papers allegedly sold for ₹40 lakh
According to the investigation, Gyanendra Kumar, who was reportedly in charge of the examinations and served as examination controller, is suspected to have played a key role in the alleged question paper leak.
The leaked papers were allegedly sold to candidates through Kannale for around ₹40 lakh each, investigators have found.
The CID is also probing allegations that attempts were made to destroy evidence by altering OMR sheets and deleting CCTV footage from the strong room.
The latest arrests are expected to help investigators establish the network involved in the alleged recruitment irregularities and trace the flow of money.
