Patna, Aug 17 (IANS) A serious road accident occurred near Pillar No. 19 on the 90-Feet Bypass under Patrakar Nagar police station limits in Patna, Bihar, on Monday. Three youths riding a motorcycle and an elderly pedestrian were injured in the collision, with three of the injured reported to be in critical condition.

According to eyewitness Sudha Devi, the three youths were travelling on a motorcycle.

They were allegedly riding at high speed on the wrong side of the road when an elderly man suddenly came into their path.

The motorcycle rider reportedly applied the brakes to avoid hitting him, lost control of the vehicle and crashed into Pillar No. 19.

The three riders were thrown onto the road following the collision and reportedly lost consciousness.

The elderly man also sustained injuries.

Among the injured youths is 19-year-old Akshay Kumar, a resident of Rajendra Nagar.

His father, Ashok Ram, who works with the Patna Municipal Corporation, learned about the accident while he was out on garbage-collection duty and reached the spot after hearing that his son was among the victims.

Ashok Ram subsequently took Akshay to a hospital for treatment.

Another injured youth was identified as Bipin (25) of Raghopur Diyara.

His family members had reportedly not reached the hospital at the time of reporting.

One of the other injured youths was taken to PMCH by relatives after doctors at a private hospital on the bypass referred him for further treatment because of his critical condition.

The injured elderly man was admitted to a nearby private hospital.

A large crowd gathered at the accident site following the crash.

Patrakar Nagar police reached the location and brought the situation under control.

Police are now collecting information about the identities and condition of all those involved and investigating the circumstances that led to the collision, including the allegations that the motorcycle was travelling on the wrong side of the road.

Meanwhile, relatives of the injured youths gathered at the hospitals, where an atmosphere of distress prevailed as families awaited updates on their condition.
