Karwar: Twenty-four fishermen were rescued after a fishing boat sank in the Arabian Sea near Anjadiv Island off the Karwar coast in Uttara Kannada district.

The fishing boat, Sri Matha, owned by Neelakantha Kharvi of Belambar, reportedly ran into trouble while operating in the sea and eventually sank.

Fishermen aboard five to six boats in the vicinity noticed that the crew of the vessel was in distress and immediately launched a rescue operation.

Their timely intervention helped save all 24 fishermen aboard the boat. No casualties were reported in the incident.

The sinking of the vessel has reportedly resulted in losses of more than ₹80 lakh, including the fishing boat and equipment on board.
