New Delhi, July 11 (IANS) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday launched a scathing attack on Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and Vice President of National Conference (NC) Omar Abdullah after the latter alleged a conspiracy to break his party and claimed that MLAs were being offered Rs 20-30 crore each and the promise of statehood, to bring down his government.
BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi said that the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister should either present evidence that supports his allegation or apologise.
Addressing the media, Trivedi said: “Today, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah made a highly irresponsible and condemnable statement. Without presenting any evidence, he attempted to make baseless allegations that BJP is trying to break away legislators from their party.”
He added that BJP’s Jammu and Kashmir unit has condemned the allegation and asked the Chief Minister to either present evidence that supports his claim or apologise.
“The reality is, in order to hide his own party’s inefficiency, incompetence, and poor governance, and to divert attention from real issues, the J&K Chief Minister is making such baseless allegations. We strongly condemn these remarks. We would like to tell Omar Abdullah that he should either present evidence to support his claims or apologise for his statement,” he said.
The BJP MP urged the Jammu and Kashmir government focus on carrying out its responsibilities and work for the welfare of the Union Territory’s people, “rather than making such allegations to hide their own inability.”
Sudhanshu Trivedi reiterated that Omar Abdullah and the National Conference “should not try to take revenge for its own failure by making such unfounded allegations”.
“The reality is they (National Conference) should focus on their own work instead of making allegations,” he said.
Meanwhile, addressing NC workers on the 26th death anniversary of his grandmother, CM Abdullah said: “When offers of money and ministerial posts failed, attempts are now being made behind closed doors to lure our MLAs. I will ensure the BJP cannot make a backdoor entry here.”
“They (BJP) are trying once again to break the NC. I have been told that one of our MLAs from Jammu was offered Rs 20–30 crore, a Ministerial berth and a promise of statehood if he joined them. They (BJP) think people’s conscience is so cheap”, he said without naming the MLA.
