New Delhi, Sep 30 (IANS) An accused in a burglary case registered at Kapashera police station has been convicted by a Delhi court within 12 days of the filing of the chargesheet and 73 days of the offence, the Delhi Police said on Wednesday.
According to the South-West District police, accused Mannu Singh alias Mannu was convicted by the court of Rohit Kumar, Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Dwarka Courts, Delhi, vide an order dated September 26.
The case was registered vide FIR No. 362/26 under Section 305 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Kapashera police station. Sections 317(2) and 331(3) of the BNS were subsequently added during the investigation.
The case pertained to the burglary of Rs 1.50 lakh in cash, gold and silver jewellery from the complainant’s house.
The incident was reported on July 15, following which a case was registered, and an investigation was initiated. During the investigation, police examined CCTV footage and identified the accused as Mannu Singh alias Mannu, a 29-year-old resident of Nala Road in Kapashera, New Delhi.
The accused was apprehended and arrested on July 17, two days after the registration of the case.
Police said the stolen jewellery, including various silver articles and coins, a gold mangalsutra and gold earrings, among other items, was recovered from the accused’s house at his instance. Following the recovery, Sections 317(2) and 331(3) of the BNS were added to the case.
The investigating team subsequently completed the investigation and filed the chargesheet before the court on September 14. The prompt filing of the chargesheet enabled the court to take up the matter for expeditious proceedings.
The accused was convicted on September 26, just 12 days after the chargesheet was filed and 73 days after the offence.
The prosecution’s case was presented before the court with the assistance of the Prosecution Branch. Public Prosecutor Pushpender Verma presented the evidence and facts of the case before the court, contributing to the conviction.
The investigation was conducted by Sub-Inspector Vijay Kumar along with other police personnel involved in apprehending the accused. The team worked under the direct supervision of Inspector Vikram Dahiya, Station House Officer of Kapashera police station, and the overall guidance of Ved Parkash, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Vasant Kunj.
The South-West District police said the swift conclusion of the case reflected the coordinated efforts of the investigating team and the Prosecution Branch.
The police said the outcome also highlighted its focus on prompt investigation and timely disposal of property-related offences while maintaining public confidence in the criminal justice and law enforcement system.
The case underscores the importance of CCTV-based investigation, timely arrest, recovery of stolen property and prompt filing of the chargesheet in facilitating the speedy disposal of criminal cases.
