Bengaluru: The opposition BJP on Monday raised concerns over the condition of BMTC buses, cautioning commuters to remain vigilant while travelling. The party alleged that poorly maintained buses are being pressed into service, putting passenger safety at risk.

Amid growing public complaints about buses breaking down mid-journey and a series of mishaps involving the transport utility, the BJP shared a video on social media platform X showing a BMTC bus in poor condition. The party accused the Congress-led government of “playing with the lives of passengers” by operating ageing buses without allocating adequate funds to the transport department.

BMTC, which has faced criticism over fatal accidents in recent years, has earned the tag of “killer BMTC” from critics, the BJP said, alleging that lack of proper maintenance continues to endanger commuters.

The party further claimed that public confidence in government buses is eroding due to safety fears. Taking a swipe at Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy, BJP leaders asked whether the situation reflected the government’s much-touted guarantees, remarking sarcastically, “Is this your Dakota bus guarantee?”
