Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has reviewed the developing cyclone threat over the Bay of Bengal and directed officials to strengthen preparedness, issue advance warnings and keep the administrative machinery on high alert.

According to a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office, Principal Secretary Sai Prasad and Real Time Governance System (RTGS) officials participated in the review meeting.

Officials informed the chief minister that a low-pressure area over the east-central Bay of Bengal was likely to intensify into a cyclone. Coastal Andhra Pradesh could receive heavy to very heavy rainfall on Tuesday and Wednesday, accompanied by strong, gusty winds along the coast.

Naidu directed officials to take preventive measures to ensure fishermen do not venture into the sea while weather conditions remain dangerous.

He also instructed the administration to alert residents of low-lying colonies in areas likely to be affected by the storm and ensure that people receive timely warnings.

The chief minister further ordered officials to make toll-free helpline numbers available for emergency assistance and information.

The review focused on advance preparedness, public safety and coordination among departments to minimise the potential impact of the developing weather system.
