Dehradun, July 23 (IANS) In a major crackdown on examination malpractice, Dehradun Police have arrested an assistant professor of Shivalik College of Engineering in Jhajhra for allegedly leaking the question paper of Uttarakhand Technical University (UTU) semester examination.
The accused, identified as Ashish Kumar Gupta, was arrested following an investigation into the alleged leak of the UTU even-semester examination held on July 8.
According to the FIR registered at Prem Nagar Police Station on the complaint of Controller of Examinations Vinay Kumar Patel, the accused allegedly shared important examination-related questions with students through a WhatsApp group before the examination.
After the exam, university officials compared the circulated questions with the actual question paper and found significant similarities.
An internal inquiry committee constituted by the university also concluded that questions matching the examination paper had been circulated among students through WhatsApp groups and other channels before the examination.
Taking the matter seriously, the Dehradun Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Pramendra Singh Dobal, directed an immediate investigation.
The Police collected electronic evidence and arrested the accused assistant professor.
Authorities said the electronic devices seized during the investigation are being examined, while efforts are underway to identify and investigate other individuals who may have been involved in the alleged paper leak network.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami reacted to the development. He reiterated the Uttarakhand government’s zero-tolerance policy against examination malpractice.
The Chief Minister said strict action would be taken against anyone involved in cheating, question paper leaks, or compromising the confidentiality of recruitment or university examinations.
CM Dhami also added that the state’s stringent anti-copying law and continuous enforcement have already led to the arrest of more than 100 members of cheating syndicates and their associates in various cases.
The Chief Minister asserted that the state government’s priority is to ensure a fair, transparent, and merit-based examination system for the youth of Uttarakhand.
The campaign against examination mafias will continue with full force, he added.
