BENGALURU: In a major crackdown on a rising wave of two-wheeler thefts in the city, the Whitefield sub-division police have arrested two habitual offenders and recovered 20 stolen motorcycles and scooters worth nearly ₹37.5 lakh.
The investigation began after a complaint was filed at Mahadevapura police station by one Nagaraju, who reported that his Yamaha RX had been stolen from near Gopalan International School. With similar thefts being reported across the zone, ACP Reena Suvarna formed a special team to track down the culprits.
The team — led by Mahadevapura inspector G Praveen Babu and PSIs Mahesh, Parashuram and Sunil Kaddi — laid a trap and arrested the accused, identified as Manu, son of Dyavegowda, and Sachin, son of Balaraju, both residents of Ramamurthynagar.
Police said the duo had been stealing two-wheelers from Mahadevapura, Whitefield, HAL, Ramamurthynagar and other areas, and selling them in different parts of Karnataka. Vehicles they failed to dispose of were hidden in isolated spots across Bengaluru. Acting on their leads, the police recovered 20 such vehicles.
ACP Reena Suvarna said the electric two-wheeler used by the suspects during the crimes has also been seized.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of DCP (Whitefield) K Parashuram. Officers Eerappa, Manjunath, Siddappa Gadyala, Kavita, Manjunath Makanapura, Sachin, Kranti Muranal, Santosh Karjagi and Nityanand assisted in the operation.
