Patna, Sep 29 (IANS) One person was killed and two others were seriously injured after three brothers were allegedly stabbed during a dispute over DJ music at a Chhathi ceremony in Nawada district on Monday night.
The incident occurred in Devanpura village under Kadirganj police station limits. The injured were initially taken to Nawada Sadar Hospital. While one of the brothers, Sandeep Kumar, succumbed to injuries during treatment in Patna on Tuesday, the other two are undergoing treatment at Nawada Sadar Hospital.
According to family members, the Chhathi ceremony was being held at the residence of Pradeep Manjhi following the birth of a baby girl. They organised a feast with music and dancing.
During the celebrations, a young man reportedly danced to the DJ’s music for an extended period. Family members allegedly asked him to eat first and then resume dancing. The remark led to an argument between the two sides.
The dispute escalated, and one of the youths allegedly attacked Sandeep Kumar with a sharp-edged weapon. When his two brothers intervened, they were also attacked.
The three brothers were rushed to Nawada Sadar Hospital. Because of the severity of their injuries, doctors referred them to Patna for further treatment. Sandeep Kumar, son of Bhola Manjhi and a resident of Devanpura village, later died during treatment. His brothers, Suraj Kumar and Pradeep Manjhi, sustained serious injuries and remain under treatment at Nawada Sadar Hospital.
The incident has left the family in deep grief and triggered tension in the area. Police acted swiftly and arrested five people allegedly involved in the attack.
After the post-mortem examination, Sandeep Kumar’s body was handed over to his family. Police have launched an investigation to establish the circumstances leading to the dispute and determine the specific roles of those arrested. Further action will be taken based on the findings.
