Bengaluru: A 1.8-km white-topped road connecting Navrang Circle to the entrance of Rajajinagar was opened to public traffic by former minister and Rajajinagar MLA S Suresh Kumar on Thursday.

Suresh Kumar inaugurated the road along with a bus driver from the Kunigal depot. He said the newly upgraded stretch is expected to cater to thousands of vehicles and more than 4,500 state road transport buses every day.

With the road now open for traffic, congestion in the area is expected to ease, the MLA said.

The project includes rainwater harvesting facilities at 10 locations. Provisions have also been made for water supply and underground drainage infrastructure, ducts for OFC cables and space for planting saplings, with emphasis on environmental protection.

Suresh Kumar said the white-topping work was executed by Ocean Construction.

Executive engineer Balaji, assistant executive engineers Manjunath and Shaila, B Smile officials, former deputy mayor Ranganna, former corporators H R Krishnappa and Deepa Nagesh, besides BJP leaders and workers, were present at the programme.
