Guwahati, Aug 31 (IANS) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday highlighted a series of major government initiatives announced or advanced over the past week, ranging from a Rs 50,000 crore infrastructure investment vision to expansion of cancer care, job creation, sports facilities and international air connectivity.
Describing it as a “week of big moves and bigger possibilities,” Sarma said the developments would contribute to Assam’s long‑term economic growth while expanding opportunities for its people.
“A week of big moves and stronger possibilities for Assam. A Rs 50,000 crore infrastructure vision. A major leap in cancer care. New jobs, world‑class sports facilities and a direct flight to Bangkok,” he said in a post on X.
The Chief Minister’s reference to the Rs 50,000 crore infrastructure vision comes amid the state government’s efforts to accelerate capital‑intensive projects and strengthen Assam’s physical and economic infrastructure.
Sarma also underlined the government’s focus on healthcare, particularly cancer treatment. Assam has been seeking to expand specialised medical facilities and improve access to advanced cancer care, reducing the need for patients to travel outside the Northeast for treatment.
Employment generation was another key area highlighted by the Chief Minister. The government has been focusing on attracting investments and expanding economic activity with the objective of creating new opportunities for Assam’s growing workforce.
He also pointed to the development of world‑class sports infrastructure, signalling increasing emphasis on strengthening facilities for athletes and encouraging sporting talent in the state.
The mention of a direct flight to Bangkok underlined Assam’s growing international connectivity. Improved air links with Southeast Asia could strengthen tourism, trade, business and people‑to‑people exchanges while reinforcing Guwahati’s position as a gateway to the Northeast.
Sarma said the combination of infrastructure, healthcare, employment, sports and connectivity initiatives represented a broader development push for Assam. The developments come as the state government seeks to position Assam as a key economic and connectivity hub in the Northeast, leveraging its geographical location and links with neighbouring countries.
He added that the past week’s initiatives reflected the scale of opportunities emerging in Assam and the government’s broader vision for the state’s future.
