Mumbai, Aug 23 (IANS) Veteran actress and voice artiste Aasha Singh Jaiswal, who famously lent her voice to actress Meena Kumari, has passed away.
Her son, Akkash Bharadwaj, shared the news on social media, and shared that she breathed her last on August 22.
He wrote in the caption, “She was a hardworking Iron Lady. Please pray for the peace and salvation of her soul. Do watch and remember her work on social media so that her soul, wherever it may be, feels pleased knowing that you still watch and remember her work (sic)”.
He further mentioned, “Kyunki unke jeevan me unka karm hee sabkuch tha jo tumhe unki mrityu ke baad Bramhaanand me moksh pradan karein issi aasha ke saath yeh sandesh main prasarit kar raha hun… Mrityu ka dukh nahin aanand Bramhaanand yehi unka sandesh (As in her life, her work was everything to her, which may grant her salvation in supreme bliss after her death, with this hope, I am sharing this message… Do not grieve death, but experience divine bliss; this was her message)”.
Aasha Singh Jaiswal played an important yet often overlooked role in filmmaking, as she helped actors communicate effectively with audiences through dubbing and voice work. Her contribution is especially interesting because Meena Kumari was celebrated for her powerful screen presence, and the voice supporting such performances had to match the character’s emotions, expressions, and dramatic intensity.
Although voice artists rarely received the same recognition as actors, their work was essential in creating memorable cinematic experiences. Aasha Singh Jaiswal’s association with Meena Kumari therefore represents an important, lesser-known aspect of classic Hindi cinema. Her contribution reminds us that behind every memorable film performance, there can be talented artists whose voices quietly helped bring characters to life.
