Bengaluru: Home Minister Priyank Kharge has assured representatives of the Advocates’ Association that their demands for strengthening the Advocates’ Protection Act will be examined and appropriate action taken.

A delegation of the association met Kharge and submitted a memorandum seeking stronger legal safeguards for advocates amid concerns over incidents of assault and murder targeting members of the legal profession.

The association called for stricter punishment for offences against advocates and sought provisions to make such offences non-bailable. It also demanded stringent action against those accused in cases involving the assault or murder of lawyers.

Kharge acknowledged receiving the memorandum and said the government would review the demands and take necessary steps after examining the representations.
