Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar on Wednesday condemned the detention and alleged manhandling of Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, during a protest in Delhi, saying political differences should not become a reason to use force against elected representatives.
In a post on X, Shivakumar said the INDIA bloc leaders were exercising their democratic right to question the government, seek accountability and demand answers on issues concerning the electoral process.
“The truth is on our side. You cannot break our courage,” he said.

Shivakumar described the treatment of Priyanka Gandhi and other women leaders as “deeply disturbing” and said questions surrounding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), electoral rolls and protection of voters’ rights required transparency and answers rather than force.
“Democracy does not become stronger by suppressing dissent. It becomes stronger when those in power have the courage to listen and answer,” he said.
Shivakumar said the Congress’ resolve remained firm and asserted that “no amount of force or intimidation” could weaken it.
He also stressed the need to protect the sanctity of every vote and maintain people’s faith in the democratic process.
