Bengaluru: Forest, Ecology and Environment Minister Ramalinga Reddy has warned of strict action against industries and local bodies discharging untreated wastewater into lakes, streams and other water bodies in Anekal taluk.
Accompanied by Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) chairman Shivanna, Reddy inspected Chandapura, Ramakrishnapura, Hennagara, Heelalige and Muttanalluru lakes following complaints of pollution from industrial and residential areas.
Untreated industrial effluents from Electronic City, Jigani and Bommasandra, along with sewage from areas under urban and rural local bodies, are allegedly entering the lakes, raising concerns over environmental damage and risks to public health.

During the inspection, the minister directed officials to enforce National Green Tribunal (NGT) directives and environmental regulations, and ensure that wastewater is treated before being discharged into natural water bodies. He warned that violations by industries and local authorities would invite action.
Reddy also reviewed the progress of four major wastewater treatment plants being built to handle industrial effluents and residential sewage. He instructed municipal officials and the KSPCB to accelerate construction and prepare a time-bound plan for commissioning the facilities.
The KSPCB will form special monitoring teams to keep watch on wastewater discharge points in Electronic City, Bommasandra, Jigani and Attibele. The teams will conduct regular inspections and check compliance with environmental standards.
The minister said lake conservation and rejuvenation would remain a priority and assured residents that steps would be taken to prevent further pollution. He also interacted with people from Chandapura and nearby villages, who raised concerns about the condition of local water bodies.
Reddy stressed that lakes are essential to both ecological balance and community health, and said industries and local bodies must ensure adequate treatment of wastewater before its release.
Officials R.K. Ramesh, R. Gokul (IFS), Srinivasulu (IFS) and Captain Santhosh (KAS), along with local representatives and residents, were present during the inspection.
