Bengaluru: Yeshwanthpur railway station will be redeveloped at an estimated cost of ₹480 crore, Union Minister of State for Railways and Jal Shakti V. Somanna said.
Speaking at a ‘Seva Diwas’ programme at KSR Bengaluru railway station organised to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday, Somanna felicitated railway employees for their dedicated service.
The minister, along with Bengaluru Central MP P.C. Mohan, later lit the ‘Ashirvada Deepa’. Around 250 railway employees, including staff involved in maintaining Vande Bharat trains, participated in the lamp-lighting ceremony.
Somanna said the Prime Minister’s birthday was being observed as ‘Seva Diwas’ to highlight his public service, noting his 25 years in public life as chief minister and prime minister.
He said the Centre was working towards making India self-reliant and inspiring young people with the vision of a developed India by 2047.
The minister also said redevelopment of Bengaluru Cantonment railway station, estimated at ₹485 crore, was under way and was expected to be completed by December 2026.
Somanna said railways and highways form the backbone of the country’s infrastructure and their continued expansion was essential for economic development.
He added that the Centre was providing full funding for the construction of road overbridges and underbridges, helping speed up the implementation of such projects.
MP P.C. Mohan said railway infrastructure development had gained momentum in recent years and highlighted the near-completion of railway line electrification as a major achievement.
Bengaluru Division Divisional Railway Manager Ashutosh Kumar Singh said railway operations were a round-the-clock responsibility and not limited to a particular day.
Additional Divisional Railway Managers Parikshit Mohanpuria and Praveen Kataraki, RITES general manager M.G. Sudeep and other railway officials and employees attended the programme.
