Patna, Sep 12 (IANS) Political rhetoric in Bihar intensified on Saturday after RJD leader Rohini Acharya raised questions over the party’s choice of an MLC candidate, with BJP leader Mrityunjay Tiwari targeting the RJD and describing its internal situation as one marked by “rebellion”.

Bihar minister Kumar Shailendra, meanwhile, said candidate selection in the BJP involved consultations at multiple levels, with senior leaders collectively taking important decisions.

Tiwari said the current situation within the RJD was no secret and claimed that there was a “rebellion-like situation” inside the party. He also alleged that all was not well within the Mahagathbandhan.

“Neither within the party nor in the alliance is there a situation of ‘all is well’,” he said. Reacting to Rohini Acharya’s questions regarding the RJD’s MLC candidate, Tiwari said the matter was an internal issue of the RJD and the family, and that the BJP had no interest in interfering in it.

However, he said Acharya’s remarks had brought the issue into the public domain.

“Rohini Acharya has raised serious questions, and now only the RJD leadership can answer them,” Tiwari said, adding that since she was associated with both the party and the family, the RJD leadership should clarify its position.

Tiwari further claimed that the issues raised by Acharya were also being discussed among RJD leaders and workers. He said party leaders and workers were seeking answers from the Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Assembly, Tejashwi Yadav.

The BJP leader also accused the RJD of becoming politically and electorally weaker. He claimed that public confidence in the party had declined and alleged that its political influence would continue to weaken in the coming period.

Meanwhile, Kumar Shailendra said he could not comment on the internal decision-making process of another political party. Referring to the BJP’s own candidate selection mechanism, he said the party was driven by its workers and decisions were taken after consultations at several organisational levels.

He said senior leadership, including the BJP national president and other senior leaders, takes important decisions related to candidates. Shailendra stressed that under the BJP’s organisational structure, candidate selection involves deliberations and consultations at different levels before a final decision is taken.
