
Imphal, Sep 7 (IANS) The Army averted another threat from Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) weighing approximately 10 kg in Manipur on Monday, officials said.
The Spear Corps of the Indian Army, in a post on its X handle, said that acting on specific Intelligence inputs, a formation under the Spear Corps detected and neutralised an IED weighing approximately 10 kg in the South Thanjing forest area of Manipur’s Churachandpur district.
“The timely action averted a potential threat to the local population and security forces, ensured safe movement in the area and reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of the Indian Army to safeguarding lives and maintaining peace and security in Manipur,” the post said.
The latest development comes within 24 hours of the detection of three powerful IEDs in Manipur.
On Sunday, acting on specific Intelligence inputs, formations under the Spear Corps, in close coordination with the Manipur Police, recovered three IEDs weighing approximately 20 kg from a jungle area between Leishabithol and Ahamadabad in Jiribam, along the southern border of Assam.
The explosive devices were safely neutralised on the spot through controlled demolition, successfully averting a major threat to life and property.
The joint operation reflected the unwavering vigilance, operational readiness and seamless inter-agency synergy of the security forces dedicated to safeguarding peace in the region, a defence spokesman had said.
Meanwhile, a police official said that based on reliable Intelligence, a joint team of the Manipur Police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and an NGO called YADAM (Youth Against Drugs and Alcohol, Manipur), jointly conducted an anti-narcotics operation in the Khergao-Naharup areas of Kakching district and arrested two drug peddlers.
The drug peddlers were identified as Md. Riyaz Khan, 48, and Dandshawa Molody, 26, residents of Chandel district.
Ten soap cases containing heroin, along with one Honda Activa and one Ford Figo, were recovered and seized from their possession, the official said.
