Kolkata, Sep 3 (IANS) Former West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, finally broke her silence on the purported attack on the Camac Street party office of Trinamool Congress General Secretary, Abhishek Banerjee early in the morning, allegedly by BJP activists, and threatened to stage protests in front of the houses of BJP leaders in New Delhi.
Mamata Banerjee came on Facebook Live at around 5 p.m. on Thursday and accused the BJP of unleashing goons for vandalising the Camac Street party office of Abhishek Banerjee, also her nephew and the Trinamool’s Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha MP.
“BJP sent goons to our party office in the wee hours. All the papers, documents, and records were destroyed. Four of our party workers were locked inside and tortured. The Shakespeare Sarani Police Station is so close to that office. But the police did not take any action. We are taking note of the role of several police stations including those attached to that police station. They should remember that the BJP will not remain in power forever,” Mamata Banerjee said in her Facebook Live message.
Thereafter, she spoke about her plans to take the protests in the matter as well as on other issues to the national Capital.
“If necessary, we will extend our democratic protest to New Delhi. How long will they be able to stop us? How long will you continue with your atrocities? If the atrocities are not stopped, I will be personally going to New Delhi and stage protest demonstrations in front of the houses of the BJP leaders there,” the former Chief Minister said.
Speaking on the occasion, she also accused the BJP-ruled West Bengal government of spreading misinformation about her security arrangements as the former Chief Minister of the state.
“The state government does not provide me any security which I am entitled to as the former Chief Minister. Do not spread misinformation. The security arrangements had been withdrawn a long time back. And now they are spreading misinformation in the matter. I do not want any security provided by you,” Mamata Banerjee said.
She also said that since the end of the West Bengal Assembly elections earlier this year, over 4,000 party offices of Trinamool Congress had been forcefully occupied by the BJP.
“They are registering new FIRs against us every day. I want to warn them, they will get tired of registering FIRs. But they will not be able to stop us,” the former Chief Minister said.
