Jaipur, July 30 (IANS) The Court of the Special Judge, Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act Cases No. 2, Jaipur Metropolitan, has convicted Anil Mishra, former Additional Inspector General (AIG) of the Madhya Pradesh Police, in a case of sexual offences against a woman and her minor daughter.
Upon conclusion of the trial, the court sentenced him to life imprisonment for the offence of rape committed against the woman. It also awarded three years’ rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine for sexually assaulting the victim’s minor daughter under relevant provisions of law.
According to the prosecution, the victim lodged a complaint at the Women’s Police Station (South), Jaipur, on July 11, 2014. Following registration of the case, the matter was investigated, evidence was collected, and a charge sheet was filed before the competent court. During the trial, the prosecution presented documentary and oral evidence in support of the charges.
After considering the evidence, examining witnesses, and hearing arguments from both sides, the Special POCSO Court found the accused guilty and convicted him.
While delivering the judgment, the court observed that the convict, despite holding a senior position in the police department and being entrusted with the responsibility of protecting citizens, had misused his official position and influence. The court held that the offences were serious and warranted stringent punishment.
The judgment underscores the criminal justice system’s commitment to ensuring accountability for offences against women and children and to securing justice through due process of law.
