Guwahati, July 30 (IANS) The Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) has contributed Rs 5 crore to the Assam Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to support relief and rehabilitation measures for families affected by the devastating floods in the state, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Thursday.
Sharing the development in a post on X, the Chief Minister expressed gratitude to the public sector oil refinery for extending financial assistance at a time when several districts continue to grapple with the aftermath of widespread flooding.
According to Sarma, the contribution was made online and will be utilised for relief and rehabilitation efforts in the flood-hit areas of Assam.
“I deeply appreciate NRL’s contribution of ₹5 crore to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. As one of Assam’s most cherished institutions, NRL has always stood shoulder to shoulder with our people. I thank the entire NRL family for extending their support during this difficult time,” the Chief Minister said.
In a separate update, the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) also acknowledged the contribution and thanked the refinery for its support.
“NRL has contributed ₹5 crore online to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to support relief and rehabilitation efforts for flood-affected families across Assam. HCM Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has expressed his sincere gratitude for this generous contribution and the company’s commitment to standing with the people of Assam during this challenging time,” the CMO said in a statement posted on X.
The contribution comes as the Assam government continues to mobilise resources for relief operations in districts affected by the recent floods, which have inundated large areas, damaged infrastructure and displaced thousands of people.
The Chief Minister’s Relief Fund has been receiving contributions from government agencies, public sector undertakings, private organisations and individuals to strengthen ongoing relief, rehabilitation and recovery efforts.
Numaligarh Refinery Limited, a leading public sector refinery under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, has been associated with several social welfare and community development initiatives in Assam and has frequently extended support during natural disasters in the state.
