
Kolkata, July 25 (IANS) A total of 10 Bangladeshi nationals were arrested by the police of Lalgola, Bhagwangola and Shamsherganj police stations in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district, the police said on Saturday.
All the accused are residents of Chapai Nawabganj and Rajshahi districts of Bangladesh.
The arrested have been sent to the Lalgola holding centre in the same district.
According to the police, the accused people had been working as migrant workers in various parts of India for a long time after crossing the border through brokers with fake Indian identity cards. They were arrested on their way back home.
On Friday night, the police arrested seven Bangladeshi nationals from the Boyra Mirpur area of Lalgola police station. All of them are said to be residents of Chargayeshpur in Chapainawabganj district of Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, the police arrested one Bangladeshi from the area adjacent to Bhagwangola station on Friday night. It is said that the Bangladeshi national’s house is located in Godagari police station area of Rajshahi district of Bangladesh.
According to police sources at Lalgola police station, the seven Bangladeshis, residents of Chargayeshpur in Chapainawabganj district, illegally entered the country through the Lalgola border about six months ago. Later, they went to work as construction workers in south India. They had been working there for a long time using fake Indian identity cards.
They had recently returned to Lalgola and were hiding.
On Friday night, all the accused had gathered in a field to return to Bangladesh via Mirpur. After learning about the matter through local sources, the Lalgola police station conducted a raid and arrested them.
During police questioning, the accused persons confessed that they had illegally crossed the border to Lalgola for work following which they went to south India.
The Bangladeshi national arrested from Bhagwangola area gave the same confession to the police.
Bhagwangola Sub-Divisional Police Officer Biman Haldar said, “A total of eight people have been arrested from Lalgola and Bhagangola police stations. They have been sent to the Padma Bhaban Holding Centre in Lalgola. They will be sent back to Bangladesh through further legal process. The process is underway.”
On the other hand, two Bangladeshi nationals from Shamsherganj police station area were caught by the police before they crossed the border.
