Jaipur, July 25 (IANS) Former Rajasthan Chief Minister, Ashok Gehlot, on Saturday welcomed the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, describing it as a victory for the sustained struggle led by Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi and lakhs of students led by the CJP, demanding accountability over repeated paper leaks.

Reacting to the development, Gehlot said, “Today marks a victory for the struggle led by Rahul Gandhi and lakhs of students against paper leaks. This movement sought transparency and accountability in the country’s education system at a time when the Modi government repeatedly tried to evade responsibility.

“Faced with immense public pressure, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was ultimately forced to act, and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had to resign. The Prime Minister defended him for a long time, but could no longer shield him from the people’s demand for accountability.”

Referring to Rahul Gandhi’s remarks earlier in the day, Gehlot said, “Earlier today, Rahul Gandhi clearly stated that Dharmendra Pradhan should be removed from office. His unwavering support for students and their aspirations has strengthened this movement. It is the power of India’s democracy that an authoritarian government was compelled to bow before the voice of the people.”

Gehlot also recalled the government’s response to the student protests.

“The country has not forgotten the barbaric treatment meted out to students protesting against paper leaks, including the use of pellet guns, and tear gas, nor has it forgotten the manner in which Rahul Gandhi, while standing in solidarity with students, was manhandled. These incidents stand as a reminder of the government’s attempt to suppress democratic dissent,” he said.

Concluding his statement, Gehlot said, “Today, democracy has triumphed and authoritarianism has suffered a defeat. However, this is not the end of the struggle. The people of India will never forgive a government that played with the future of millions of young students. Our fight will continue until every student receives justice, those responsible are held accountable, and the integrity of India’s education system is fully restored.”
