Bhopal, July 22 (IANS) Hours after the Congress party’s protest near Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence over the NEET leaks and police action on student protestors in the national Capital, the BJP on Wednesday laid siege to the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) headquarters in Bhopal.
The BJP accused Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi and the Opposition of trying to create an atmosphere of anarchy in the country.
The protest, led by Madhya Pradesh BJP president Hemant Khandelwal, was organised in response to LoP Gandhi, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and senior Congress leaders’ staging a sit-in outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence in New Delhi over the issue of police action against students.
Addressing party workers, Khandelwal alleged that the Congress had abandoned democratic politics and was attempting to create unrest after suffering repeated electoral defeats.
“The Congress and its leader Rahul Gandhi are trying to create an atmosphere of anarchy in the country. BJP workers in Madhya Pradesh are laying siege to the Congress office today. Our message is that if the Congress wants to fight, it should do so in the electoral arena. But it is afraid because the people have already rejected it,” Khandelwal said.
He further alleged that the Congress leadership was trying to malign the BJP government and create chaos instead of respecting the people’s mandate.
A large number of BJP workers marched to the PCC office, raising slogans against the Congress leadership. Police personnel were deployed around the party office to maintain law and order during the protest.
Even as the BJP stepped up its offensive, the Congress continued its protests in different parts of Madhya Pradesh over the police action against students and remarks made by senior BJP leader and Urban Development Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya.
State Congress president Jitu Patwari joined a student protest in Indore, while Congress workers attempted to stage a demonstration outside Vijayvargiya’s residence.
The protesters were stopped by the police, who informed them that the minister was in Bhopal.
Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar accused the BJP government of protecting Vijayvargiya over his reported remarks against students.
“Kailash Vijayvargiya yesterday called the students ‘anarchists’. There is a video of his remarks. Even then, the government does not want to acknowledge it. No action is being taken against the person who made such remarks against the country’s students,” Singhar alleged.
