New Delhi, July 5 (IANS) A team of Delhi’s Gokalpuri Police Station arrested an accused under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and rescued a kidnapped minor girl, officials said on Sunday.
According to police, on June 23, a complaint was received at the police station wherein a woman reported that her 17-year-old daughter had gone missing since June 20 and despite extensive efforts by the family, her whereabouts could not be traced.
Suspecting that an unknown person had kidnapped her daughter, she approached the police for legal action.
Subsequently, a case was registered under Section 137(2) Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and an investigation was initiated.
An official statement said that a dedicated police team comprising ASI Poonam, HCs Anuj, Rohit, Naresh, and Ct. Parveen, led by Gokalpuri SHO Inspector Umed Singh, carried out sustained technical surveillance, analysed electronic evidence, and developed local intelligence.
Based on the technical inputs and information collected, the team successfully traced the whereabouts of the victim and arrested the accused, identified as 22-year-old Karan, a resident of Uttam Nagar’s area in the national capital.
Police personnel safely rescued the kidnapped minor girl.
During interrogation, the accused admitted to his involvement in the offence. The mobile phone used in the commission of the crime was also recovered from his possession.
Based on the facts that emerged during the investigation and the statement of the victim, Sections 64(1) & 87 BNS and Section 4 of the POCSO Act were also added to the case.
Officials said that the accused has not been involved in criminal activities in the past. Further investigation in the case is in progress.
In a similar case last month, the Anti Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) of Delhi Police’s Outer North District successfully traced and recovered a missing minor girl and reunited her with her family, officials said.
According to police, the recovered girl is a resident of Delhi. She had been reported missing, following which an FIR was registered in June under Section 137(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Police Station Alipur in the Outer North District.
Officials said the recovery was made possible through prompt action, continuous follow-up, and dedicated efforts by the police team. After being safely traced, the minor girl was handed over to the Investigating Officer of Alipur Police Station for further legal proceedings and investigation.
