Bhopal, May 27 (IANS) Former Congress district president Pushparaj Singh has drawn the attention of Rajya Sabha MP and former Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh to the mounting problems faced by farmers in Narmadapuram district.
In a detailed letter, Pushparaj Singh highlighted serious lapses in wheat procurement, fertiliser availability, and the upcoming moong procurement process, urging swift intervention to protect the interests of thousands of farmers.
Digvijaya Singh has promptly written to Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, demanding immediate action on these critical issues.
He expressed deep concern over the sudden suspension of slot bookings for wheat procurement at the Minimum Support Price.
This abrupt decision has left numerous farmers unable to sell their produce, causing widespread distress during the peak harvesting season.
The former Chief Minister called upon the state government to immediately resume the slot booking system and extend the procurement period to ensure every farmer receives fair compensation for their hard work.
The letter also shed light on the acute shortage of fertilisers needed for paddy cultivation.
Farmers in Narmadapuram are struggling because the e-token server has been offline for long periods, making it nearly impossible to obtain essential inputs.
With around three lakh farmers in the district relying on just six fertiliser depots, the supply chain has collapsed.
Digvijaya Singh demanded that the government ensure sufficient stocks of DAP fertiliser without delay.
In case of unavailability, he suggested providing NPK 12:32:16 as an immediate alternative to prevent damage to standing crops.
On the moong procurement front, confusion prevails after the government announced that it would procure only 25 per cent of the total yield.
Farmers are anxious about the fate of the remaining produce and have sought clarity.
Digvijaya Singh pressed for a comprehensive policy that clearly defines the number of procurement centres, availability of gunny bags, and logistical arrangements, especially considering the challenges posed by the upcoming monsoon season.
The Congress leader emphasised that the state government must demonstrate genuine seriousness towards resolving these grievances.
He urged prompt decision-making to provide much-needed relief to the farming community, which forms the backbone of Madhya Pradesh’s economy.
The issues raised in the letter have sparked discussions among farmer groups across the district, who hope that the intervention by senior Congress leaders will compel the administration to act decisively and prevent further losses.
