
Pune, May 18 (IANS) In a significant joint operation, police authorities in Pune have apprehended two Bangladeshi women and a juvenile while they were attempting to escape to Guwahati in Assam.
The arrests were made at the Pune Airport as part of an intensified crackdown on illegal Bangladeshi immigrants residing in the city.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, teams from the Khadak Police Station, Vimannagar Police Station, and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) collaborated to intercept the trio.
The operation tool place after Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar issued strict directives to all police stations to take decisive action against foreign nationals staying illegally within city limits.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Krushikesh Ravale, Zone 1, received a credible tip-off regarding the movement of two women and one male Bangladeshi national who were planning to board a flight from Pune to Guwahati.
Following the information, senior police inspector Shashikant Chavan immediately deputed sub-inspector Mahendra Kamble along with an investigation team to the airport.
Officers from the Vimannagar police station led by officer Palve, in coordination with CISF team led by Santosh Kumar Agnihotri, laid a successful trap and nabbed the suspects before they could proceed further.
The individuals had arrived in Pune from Solapur and were preparing to leave the state to evade detection.
During preliminary interrogation, the detained persons revealed their identities as Shahinoor Begum Shaikh, aged 42, Shagurika Begum Yulia Shaikh, aged 28, and Topu alias Murad Ahmed Shaikh, who is sixteen years and nine months old.
All three hail from Bangladesh and were found to be staying illegally in India.
They have been handed over to the Vimannagar police station for detailed interrogation and necessary legal proceedings.
The entire operation was conducted under the overall supervision of senior officials including police commissioner Amitesh Kumar, joint commissioner of police Ranjankumar Sharma, additional commissioner of police Rajesh Bansod, deputy commissioner of police Krushikesh Ravale, and assistant commissioner of police Anuja Deshmane.
This latest arrest adds to the growing tally of actions taken by Pune Police against illegal immigrants. According to official figures, the force has arrested as many as 97 Bangladeshi nationals in the past ten-and-a-half months.
