Mangaluru: Solemn Good Friday celebrations were held across the country, with devotees participating in prayer services commemorating the sacrifice of Jesus Christ and his message of peace and coexistence.
At St Joseph’s Church in Borimar near Bantwal in Dakshina Kannada district, the observance stood out for its unique candlelight procession. Devotees took part in a silent march carrying candles, symbolising peace and praying for global harmony.

The procession, held as part of the ritual marking the mortal remains of Jesus Christ, highlighted themes of sacrifice, love and human values. People from different faiths also participated, reflecting communal harmony during the ceremony.
Significance of Good Friday
Good Friday is observed to commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Churches across the country conduct special prayers, including the ‘Way of the Cross’, which traces key events from the sentencing of Jesus to his crucifixion and burial.
Devotional practices such as the veneration of the cross and prayer services form a central part of the observance, drawing large gatherings of devotees.
